WS1 – Sociological Research »Early Marriage: Culture or Abuse?«
The present survey report, carried out among different Roma groups/communities in Bulgaria, Italy and Slovenia, is aiming at identifying the attitude of different Roma groups, participating in the survey, towards early marriage issue. The responses on mainly closed-questions reveal how Roma accepts this phenomena nowadays, is there any change in sight regarding early cohabitations and consequently early parenthood, how important is education as well as employment and much more.
WS2 – Training on Mediation and »door to door« visits
A programme and teaching materials for the basic training in the area of mediation in a multicultural community, with an emphasis on the Roma community, contains a wide variety of information to help the participants of the training to (better) understand and manage a particular conflict situation. The training is intended for representatives of public institutions and organizations (education, social care, medical care and counselling, representatives of local authorities and police) as well as for Roma representatives.
WS3 – Prevention programs for schoolchildren
As a teaching and learning support for the implementations of the prevention programs two teaching tools were developed, a set of playing cards and a video cartoon.
The set of playing cards contains 35 cards; 5 cards with coloured backgrounds (yellow, red, green, blue and grey) represent five basic topics of the program: emotional education, cultural diversities, resolution of conflicts, knowledge on minority cultures and recognition of violence. Six accompanying cards support each basic topic.
The 5 cartoons, covering each of the cover topic of the prevention program, were developed according to the contents of each topic (emotional education, cultural diversities, resolution of conflicts, knowledge on minority cultures and recognition of violence).
WS4 – Project Promotion and Dissemination
The present publication contains documents developed and implemented within the project “Early Marriage – Culture or Abuse?” (JUST/2013/DAP/AG/5556). It presents survey results on Roma attitude towards early marriage issue and tested recommendations on preventing early marriages. The variety of useful documents and tools developed and implemented within the project provide a valuable example and guidelines on how to approach, address and tackle the issue of early marriages in Roma communities.
